WELL-KNOWN RACEHORSE DEAD. jv c.vule — chess association—copyeight. Received 12.30 p.m. to-day. ADELAIDE, Feb. 2S. The racehorse sire Pistol is dead. He sired approximately 730 winners of 1600 .races and nearly £250,000 in stakes.

HAWERIA TRACK NOTES. (By “Limited.”) The weather was boisterous and cold at the racecourse this morning. The trial grass was in excellent order for galloping and the sand track was available and in good order for pace work. Cl Jackson was first to work and sent Benzora and Vivo together over half a iniLe. Both horses went well and registered oOsec.

Bisox and Silvermine went about a mile on the same course, coming home over the last half mile in 54sec.

Lady Cavendish was given pace work on the sand track.

Mendip was also worked a couple of rounds qu this track. Partaga by himself went on the trial grass and ran his- half in 50 l-ssee. Reremoana, looking in tip-top fettle, was given easy 7 work trotting and cantering.. The softer tracks will suit Reremoana’s sore heels. Lady Desmond did a couple of rounds on the sand. This mare has quietened down a lot and works as tractably as anything on the course.

J. Brown worked his two-year-olds Fenacre and Silver Rule on the two-year-old track. The former will be given a run at Opunake, although the distance of the race six and a half furlongs will be against him. Bright Glow, looking well after her trip to- Woodville, was worked on the lead. O'rcades and Elea did easy exercise on the inside, and Barryanda worked a round of the sand track. O. Cox gave his- two-year-olds Tane and Kalia a flutter over three furlongs on the trial grass, the pair finishing together in 38) sec. O'razone, whose next mission will be the Opunake Cup, worked a couple of rounds on the sand. R. Brough’s and M. Conway’s teams were worked after breakfast.
