MOTOR COLLISION.
AT TE NGUTU-O-TE-MANTJ. YOUTH’S LEG FRACTURED. At about 6 p.m, on Monday last al vouth, aged 20 years, named Alfred Alartin, suffered a, fractured leg as the result of a collision between a motorjvcle and car at the. junction of the Skeet and Ahiapaipa Roads, near the Te Ngutu Domain. Martin, who is a) 'ii of Mr F. W- Martin, Skeet Road, Matapu. was •returning from Ha we ra to the Te Ngutu factory, at which, he is employed, and on turning into Skeet Road a motor-cfir, travelling in the direction of Kapuni, struck ibis motorcycle amidships, almost cutting it in halves, and seriously injuring the rider. Mr C. S. Martin, manager at the adjacent factory, promptly summoned medical aid from Kapongal by telephone. On arrival Dr. Gray pronounced Martin’s injuries to consist of a compound fracture of the right leg below the knee, and ordered his removal to the Hawera Hospital, to' which the suffered was conveyed by ambulance shortly afterwards. The car concerned in the collision was driven by a Maori known as Rangi, and! carried as passengers three other (natives and a Eupropean with his wife and child.
It is understood that Martin had onlv that day purchased the new motor cycle at Hawera. He is popularly known as a member of the Kapongai Cvcle Club, under which body he has competed in numerous cycle road races.
