UNRESTRICTED USE OF WATER. [BY TELEGRAPH—PRESS ASSOCIATION.] AUCKLAND, Feb. 22. The first sports body to be prosecuted for a breach of the water restrictions was the Remuera Lawn Tennis Club, which was fined £1 and costs. Becoming suspicious on account of the good condition of the lawns, two inspectors hid behind a hedge and saw the caretaker fill up his big roder with water and afterwards pull the plug out. The roller would hold about sixty gallons. Then he left the hose turned on with a sack over it.
Counsel for the club said that the caretaker had definite instructions not to use the hose.
GAVE CAPTAIN A BLACK EYE. AUCKLAND, Eeb. 22. Samuel Evans, aged 29, a fireman on the Port Bowen, was fined £2, in default seven days’ imprisonment, forgiving the captain a black eye while on the bridge before the steamer sailed for Opua last evening. He joined at Adelaide and wished to sign off at Auckland. The skipper said that the shipping office was tlio only place at wlucil Evans could sign off, whereon ciic fireman struck him.
