MOTOR CYCLE RACING
HAWERA CLUB FIXTURE. GOOD MEETING ON RACECOURSE. ARNOTT HAS A SPILL. The Haw-era Motor Cycle Club’s annual rare meeting was held on the Egmont Racing -Club’s course to-day in splendid weather. There' was a good attendance of the public, and the track was in excellent order. Tlie races were got off in quick order, and the whole of the arrangements worked smoothly, thanks to the work of tffe secretary (Mr. AY. G. Walkley) and members of the committee. The riders were representative of all parts 1 of the North Island, their number including such well-known performers as P. Coleman and D. C. Managh. The following are the results up to the time of going to press : HAWERA HANDICAP, live laps; for Class C riders. First £B. second £4, third £2. H. Tolley (New Plymouth), Indian, losee 1 E. Calder (Kaupokonui), Ariel, 15 sec 2 L. J. Crosby (Auckland), (Norton, scr 3 Also started: AY. R. Vickeis (Midhirst), 8.5. A., ssec; R. Jones (Palmerston North), 8.5. A., lOsec; F. A. Melville (Hawera), Ariel, 15sec; J. Ashcroft (Wanganui), New Hudson, 15 sec; L. Thorpe, Norton, losee. Thorpe had a two lap lead on the field when he had to pull up owing to engine trouble. The winner got home by 25 yards from the second man. Time, smin lOsee. OKAIAAVA HANDICAP, six laps; for class B riders. First £lO, second £5, third £2.
