A message from Moscow states tnav the Unman Catho-lic Bishop, Monsignoi fcvKalshy, tiie Polish Nationalist-, was sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment oi. charges of counter-revolutionary activities, agitating against Soviet clubs, also acting on behalf of the Roman Catholic clergy in Ukraine and sheltering Polish priests, and illegally crossing the frontier. A further charge of es.pionage was dismissed. The Rliga- correspondent of “The Times” reported on January 23 that a Soviet military tribunal at Kieff was trying the Roman Catholic Bishop Skalsky on a charge of counter-revolii-espionage, involving the death penalty? When other ecclesiastics accompanied the departing Polish troops in 1920 Skalsky remained at Kieff. He hid in a belfry for five weeks, after which he resumed his duties. The charges include maintaining relations with Poland, to which lie gave a review on-the position of the Roman Catholics in the Ukraine, and of the agitation against the Soviet.
