VOCATIONAL TRAINING.
NAVAL MIGRATION SCHEME. Y AUTHORITIES CO-OPERATING. BY CABLE PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT. LONDON, Jan. 25. The Overseas Settlement Committee has enlisted the co-operation of the Ministry of Labour and Admiral Beatty for the promotion of a migration scheme embracing ex-naval ratings after their completion of 12 yoras’ service. They are then usually about 35 years of age. There is a vocational training establishment already in existence at Portsmouth, where handy men are turned out, and it is now proposed to supplement this with land training. _ The migration authorities advocate village communities in the Dominions, in which both handy men and land trainees might settle co-operatively. It is claimed that their physical fitness and adaptability are superior to these qualities in other migrants. The naval authorities point out the desirableness of locating the naval men where they will be able to complete their reservist training to qualify for the gratuity of £IOO when 40 years of age, in 'addition to a marriage allowance.
