ELTHAM SCHOOL.

MEETING OF COAIALITTEE. The monthly meeting of the Eltham School Committee was held last evening, there being present: Messrs AV. Ricketts (chairman), AV. AV. Avery (secretary), A. R. Kemp, A. Ware, L. C. Pinny, and Rev. J. A. Byburn. For the month ending December 22 the dental officer, Nurse H. C. Hunt, reported the treatment of 54 patients at Eltham School and 21 at the Ngaere School, involving a total of 187 operations. The secretary of the Taranaki Education Board wrote, covering the following resolution passed at the board’s meeting on December 14: “That in connection with the monthly reports of the Ilawera, Eltham and New Plymouth dental clinics placed before the meeting, the board is pleased, to note that

the work is carried out in a very satis factory manner, and regrets that the services of more dental officers are not available at present in order to extend this important work.’’ REMODELLING OLD SCHOOL. Air T. B. Strong, Director of Education, Wellington, advised that the proposal to remodel the old school at Eltham, as suggested by the committee, through the Taranaki Education Board, could not, in the present financial circumstances, be considered. Only cases of actual lack of accommodation could be entertained, and it was regretted that the board’s application must be postponed until the next financial year. SCHOOL PICNIC. The chairman and secretary were deputed to make arrangements for holding the annual school picnic at New Plymouth. It was proposed to hold the. picnic on the second or third Thursday in February. GENERAL.

Afessrs .T. C. Walsh and W. AV. Avery Were appointed a. visiting committee for the ensuing month. Accounts amounting to £ls llspvere passed for payment. The secretary reported a sound financial position and advised that further subsidies were now due, on receipt of which a very gratifying condition of the school finances could 'be recorded.
