BY BEAM TO JAPAN
SOUTH AMERICA ALSO,
LONDON, Dec. 18. Marconis announce two-way beam services between New York and Rio de Janeiro. A one-way service to Buenos Aires is now operating at Dorchester, where a station is being constructed for Iteam communication with Japan, the Far East, and 1 Egypt. The last-named service will use alternative wave-lengths. The receiving station is established at Somerton, 30 miles from Dorchester.
It is now possible, bv electrical engineering adjustments, *to vary tbc width of the beam. Consequently, the company is enlarging the' Rio de .Janeiro station to permit communication with London, Paris and' Berlin. A receiving station is being built at Paris, and a transmitting station at Buenos Aires, and complete stations in the Far East and Egypt, with wave-lengths of 15 to 40 metres. The Japanese and South American communications will be received on aerials at opposite sides of the same masts at Somerton.
