BURGLARY AT PALMERSTON NORTH.

During the time from when the shop was locked up at 9.30 o'clock on Saturday evening till the opening this morning the business premises of L. E. Collier, Cuba Street, furrier and tailor, were broken into and fur coats and necklets valued at several hundreds of pounds were stolen. Prior to Christmas an unsuccessful attempt was made to break into the shop. WATER SHORTAGE AT AUCKLAND Auckland, Jan. 4. An emergency meeting of the city water committee was held this afternoon to discuss the shortage in the water supply, which, with the dry summer, would be extremely serious. If rain does not fall in the Waitakerei ranges for another three months' the clams will be dry. At the existing rate of consumption, there is just enough water to satisfy the public demands for about sixty days.
