Mr A. G. Lethbridge has been appointed temporary traffic inspector, ranger, etc., for the Borough of Eltnam.

Mr W. Waters (town clerk at Eltham) left for Wellington this morning by motor on business in connection with the municipal pictures. Mr R. R.. O’Birien, of Wellington, who was a competitor at. the Hawera Tennis Club’s tournament left this morning for Palmerston North, where lie will compete in the tournament being held next week. Visitors to South Taranaki for the holidays and staying with Mr G. Geary, of Man Utah i, are Mr and Mrs AY. Marriott, of Christchurch.. Mr Marriott is in charge of- a model school in that city and his work has a special interest for (this district, because young teachers after two years at the training college are instructed by him in the management and organisation necessary to- control sole teacher schools in country districts. He has had much experience in that work and in consequence the training these "young teachers receive—by instruction as well as by actual practice—is of the greatest value when they take charge of such a school. Mr Marriott was for many years associated as assistant at Tima.ru to Mr Valentine, the recent Inspector of School in Taranaki. He is intensely interested in open-air schools of which, he entirely approves and he looks forward to seeing the school in New Plymouth, on which that being erected here is mdelled.
