The past year has shown considerable progress in siiupping an Australia and there iis inuun evtiueuce that the industry generally wilt continue to advance during ii/28. Trade in overseas, inter-Stat£> and iNew South Wales coastal services has been satisfactory. During the year ended June 30 a. record quantity of cargo from overseas was landed. Merchandise shipped by vessels on the Australian register was greater than ever before. With one or two minor exceptions, oversea freight rates far general cargo remained unchanged. Apart from the watersiders’ strike recently, trade was not hampered during .the year to. such an extent as in preceding years.
