BENEFITS TO AUSTRALIA. .‘l t-AUi.r. -PaESo AriSoCiA'HOjN—CUPlßiGiii. Received 11.15 a.m. to-day. CANBERRA, Dec. 21. The Minister of Customs (the Hon. H. E. Pratten) in a .statement shows that, excluding the benefits under the new tariff schedule, the estimate of the total benefits under- Empire preference to Britain for the financial year 1925-26 were £7,981,000. For the same year New Zealand benefited to the amount of £230,000. The advantage to Canada for the year ended September 30, 1927, was £235,000. The. value of the concessions given to Britain under the new schedule was estimated to be ultimately £1,500,000 annually. It was estimated that the total benefit to Australia was from Britain £571,000 in 1925, from Canada £182,000 in 1927, and New Zealand £217,000 in 1926.
