CALF REARING.

AMONG THE SCHOOLS. LAST GROUPS AND CHAMPIONSHIPS. The final act in the calf-rearing competitions took place to-day at Eltham, whefi the last- of the. groups and the champ ions hips were decided. The weather, though threatening, was fine, and Taumata Park was a busy place while the work of judging was in operation. There was a fairly satisfactory attendance -of the parents and teachers, and, together witli the children, there were probably a couple of hundred present, and the keenest interest was evinced throughout. The judges, both in condition and in type, had a busy and strenuous time, for the level of quality was naturally high and competition keen. They bad much difficulty in sorting out the winners and the marks will show liow close they were. "All round, the judges said they were very pleased with the display. The rows of calves would have done no discredit to any showring, and made a pretty interesting sight. the morning awards (group) were as below : GROUP 8. Shorthorn-Friesians. Judges.—Messrs IV.
