A NARROW ESCAPE. (BY’ TELEGRAPH—PRESS ASSOCIATION.) PALMERSTON N., Dec. 13. One of Palmerston North’s oldest landmarks, ta building which formerly housed the fire brigade in Coleman Place and latter was shifted to Cuba Street' and used until -recently as headquarters of the Manawatu Philosophical Society, a home for the museum and other -bodies, narrowly escaped destruction when a fire- broke out in it at an early hour this morning. The contractor -for the erection, of a new 'hotel and a confectioner had goods, etc., stored in -the building, the latter’s stock being ruined.
