BOYS’ HOME ELTHAM.

GARDEN FETE. On Thursday, December 15, it' is the purpose 7 of the manager of thei Boys' Home at Eltham to hold a garden fete with the object of assisting tne finances of the institution. This is a ciiange from the practice of former years anu has been made with the object of bringing tne. public to the school itself and Paving an opportunity not only of seeing the boys, but tlieir home. In tiie. past the; people of South Taranaki have shown their practica. sympathy with the institution, and rigntlv so. for it would be impossible, to find a home of the kind where the boys are better cared for, receive a. sound primary school education, and practical instruction in farm operations to the extent that the inmates are fitted to become, wage-earners immediately upon leaving the home. It a& without doubt a. model institution. In some cases the boys are being paid for by a parent who is unable to provide a private home, but in many cases the whole cost of maintenance rails niton the institution. In these castss it is manifest that any subsidy received will not do all that the. conductors of the home wish to. do in the way of making the institution take a.s far a* possible the place of a real, home, so appeals are made to the public to assist; Thiese. appeals do not make a great demand upon any individual purse- Small contributions from a. large body of subscribers can do an immense amount ' r good in helping to make good '‘ti'Kono of bovs who are handicapped through no fault of tlieir own. In regard to the garden fete a modest shM-Bn-sr is asked for admission, and a still more modest sixpence will procure afternoon ten if it « desired. There .'il be attractions in tho way of boys’ sports, physical drill, presentation of prizes, etc.. Boys will be selling tickets in Hawera, Eltham and Stratford, and Major Dixon, tho manager of the home, is hopeful that the public will be responsive. >
