NORMANBY.
SCHOOL COMMITTEE MEETING. There were present, at the ordinary meeting: of the Normanby School Committee last night: Messrs. E. P. Grant (chairman), H. Davidson, E. Bennett, E. Pickering, and H. Le Fleming. The Education Board wrote to say that a new clock would be forwarded as soon as new stocks came to hand, also that hat and coat hooks would be supplied as soon as possible. It was agreed to hold a school concert and dance, with presentation of prizes, on Friday, December 16, in the Town Hall. The headmaster (Mr. W. Davidson) reported a roll number of 150 (71 boys and 79 girls, with average weekly attendance of 121.5 for the month. At present many pupils were absent owing to measles. The Chief Inspector (Mr. McKenzie) visited the school on October 27 and' 28, twelve pupils being presentee! for Standard VI. proficiency, ten gaining a pass, One secured competency and one failed. The annual examination would begin gjhis week. Miss North’s appointment terminated this year, but she being anxious to remain on this year and she asked the committee to. apply that she be allowed to remain. The annual school sports would be held on ’December 14 at Hawera. and the headmaster asked for permission to close the school on that date. This was granted. Passing of accounts totalling £5 19s 3d and a vote of thanks to the chairman concluded the meeting.
