PRIME MINISTER’S ATTITUDE.
NO DEFINITE STATEMENT. SESSION ENDS WTTHTN A WEEK (BY TELEGRAPH—SPECIAL TO “THE STAR.”) WELLINGTON, Nov. 22. •An effort Avas made unsuccessfully by Mi- 11. Atinore (Nelson) in the House to-day to obtain a definite statement from the Prime Minister regarding his Licensing Bill plans. Mr Atinore asked: “Will the Prime Minister inform Parliament and the people AA-hether he proposes proceeding with the Licensing Bill this session and will he make a frank statement of ins own attitude in this connection.” Mr Coates expressed regret that lie had not been giA-en more time to consider so important a question, but the House could scarcely expect anything but a frank ans Aver. “I haA r e already indicated to the House and to the country generally that I have taken an opportunity to consider the question. I am in negotiation Avith the different viewpoints of members Avithin the House itself and later on shall be glad to comply with the honourable members request,” he said. The opinion AA-as expressed by the Prime Minister in reply to another question that lie hoped to see the session finished Avithin a Aveck.
