Owing to seasonal increases in the price of fuel and some foodstuffs, the cost of living in October was 69 per cent, above that of July, lf> 14-, as compared with 67 per cent, in the previous month.
The effect of the cold weather on Unbuilding and other trades also accounted for the seasonal increase in unemployment. Among approximately .12,000,000 work people insured against unemployment, the percentage wholly or partly unemployed was 9.6 on October 2-1, compared with 9.3 the month previously and T 3.0 a year previously when the effects of the mining dispute were still felt.
