OKAIAWA.

A METHODIST EFFORT. A very successful evening was spent in the Okaiawa hall on A ednesiiay, when the Cobweb evening sale and concert took place, and at which there was a good attendance. Musical items were rendered by the children of the union Sunday school, who were trained by Mrs. Blair ana Miss Phillips, and the children’s part of the programme was much appreciated, encores being freely called for and given. Miss Winnie Oldfield officiated at the piano and helped to make the concert the success it was. The hall was nicely decorated. A lolly stall occupied one corner, and in the capable hands of Mrs. Thrush and her helpers did splendid business. In another corner Miss Phillips took charge of the fish pond, and with her assistants had quite a busy time. The centre of the hall was taken up with a cobweb, above w-hieh a huge spider hung, and from other parts of the building smaller spiders were suspended Sixtv-five “flies” were hanging from the web, and at a. given signal the human spiders were working in the web. seeking the “fly” at the end of his or her string. Quite an excitino- time was spent hunting the “flies” until the last one was captured. Webs and “flies” take time to prepare, and the ladies of the church worked hard to prepare the parcels for the web, and the school teachers and scholars helped with the fish pond and lolly The effort was on behalf of the Methodist Church, and proved a success in every way. At the conclusion supper was provided by the ladies and was appreciated by all. In connection with the effort an evening was held at the residence of Mrs. Green, Scott Road, on November 2 and a very pleasant time was spent with music and games. The chairman, Rev. H. C Orchard voiced the appreciation of the church to all who had worked so well to make the effort a success, and congratulated Okaiawa Ou its progress.
