ARARATA.
(From a Gorrespondent.) FANCY DrSsS BALL. Children generally enjoy a fancy dress ball, and if attendance, lightheatedness, and gay dresses intensify that enjoyment, then the Ararata school children must have been very happy indeed when they, their parents and friends met to dance the happy hours away a few days ago. The hall had been previously decorated by the children and it presented quite a pleasing sight. Much credit is duo to the ladies of the district for the tasteful way in which they- decorated the supper tables and provided a feast “fit for a king.” The ball was opened with a grand by the children who held the floor until supper time. Previous to the presentation of prizes, Mr. Larcom thanked Mr. and Mrs. Laidlaw who kindly consented to judge the fancy costumes, and the musicians, Mrs. Corkhill and Miss aiM Mr. Humpheys. After supper the adults took the floor and completed a very pleasant and lucrative evening. Prizes were awarded as-follows: Ladies: Best poster.—Miss Taylor 1, Miss Riley 2.
