FRASER ROAD ENTERTAINERS.
ITEMS AT OPUNAKE. (From Our Eraser ltd. Correspondent.) On Wednesday a party of 16 school children, and the Maori quartet, together with a few parents, journeyed to O'punake to assist at the annual concert of the Opunake Federal Band, held in the Town Hall, which was packed. With, their first item a unison Bong “D’ye Ken John Peel,” the school choir found favour witli the audience, which demanded encores for each of the six items rendered. -There included Hawera and Wellington competition pieces and a beautiful two-part arrangement of “On the Banks of Allan Waiter.”
Similarly the quartet gained every applause for their first item “Tenei ahau” and they were encored for their other items, giving five in all. Opunake will remember Fraser Road with pleasure for some time. The writer bias' heard the band previously, but never to better advantage than this concert. They gave really fine renderings of “Sattanella” and a medley of American airs. Other artists were Mr. N. Papakakura, who is a power ip himself to draw an audience, and Mrs. Kerrick, who was new to Opunake audiences. Her phrasing and winning appearance made her an instant success on the t>l ait form. It was left to Mr. P. M. Brooker to supply the baritone songs. He is a member of the band. As elocutionist Mr. Smith, of Oounako, did well, and Miss J>. Cl oust on danced the hornpipe excellently. Tims an all-round concert satisfied all tastes and on all hands the only earn plaint, heard was that encores made it too long. Supper was sewed at nearly midnight to the artists.
