CYCLE ROAD RACE

CONVENT SCHOOL BOYS. The times put up by the. boys oi the Convent School on their cycle road race yesterday—twenty-one entered. and sixteen finished within a vmy short time of one another —were remarkably good, especially when :it is considered that the conditions were adverse, owing to a nasty head wind for part of the journey. The course was, as set out in a previous issue, about twelve: miles, commencing at the Showgrounds, running along Camberwell Road, High Street, Waihi Road and Mam .South Road to the junctions of the Ketemarae Road, thence to Normanby and returning via the IVaihi. G'over and Camberwell Roads to the starting point. ' The limit hoys were spnt away shortly after 3 o’clock, and the field kept well together, and at the half-way Kerrisk and Leydom were leading. The. latter maintained his position and secured first pace. The times were as below: — Ley don (4min), 31 l-3min 1 D. Gray (4min), 38 2-3im.ii 2 B. SeaVeir (2min), 37min 3 OrUiekshank (3min), 38 l-3min 4 The others finished in the order following : Perrett, 39 l-3min; Ivjerrisk, 42amin; Crowley, 40 2-3 min; Fake, 43 l-3minj O’Brien, 41 1-3 mi n; A. Dykes (scr), 38-J-in.iu; Me Glade, 44 l-3min; Harrington. 42 l-3min; Geary, 44 2-3 min;-and King, 56 l-3min. The fastest time and third place were recorded by B. Seaver in 37min., an excellent record for the. distance. Ley don. who gained first place, and Oruickshank, the fourth man, were level for the .second-fastest time. Father Evans and Mr L. Harrington officiated for the .starting and timekeeping, and were very pleased with the results of their efforts. There was a prize given by the school for the winner and for the fastest time and Mr L. T. Alanter donated a ’second prize. Mr Mar ter was very pleased with the results and. hopes that some of the Iboy..s: wiilil Tatter on, link up with the Amateur Athletic Oluh.
