ANKLE LORE.

If you are the possesor of a pair of pretty ankles remember that dancing and walking are very liable to spoil their daintiness. A bandage or a rubber puttee should lie worn round the ankle during sleep. This, with a little massage with fresh lemon juice, or a solution of Epsom salts, will reduce any slight thickness which may have resulted from the exercise. Another point that the woman with weak ankles should remember is that constantly changing from high-heeled to low-heeled shoes is very bad for the ankles. Very low heels tend to thicken them, and so do extremely high heels, for the latter impose a great strain on the ligaments of the foot. If you would have slim ankles and keep them slim, adopt moderately high heel and keep to that height. Night and morning massage the ankles, stroking from the instep toward the calf with very firm movements, and give special attention to the backs of the ankles, for it is here that any thickening generally starts. Should there he any sign of swelling or aching- apply a firm bandage or puttee and wear it at night. Bathing the ankles in salted water is also beneficial and nothing is more strengthening to weak ankles than paddling in the sea.
