Severne, yesterady liberated 40,000 fontinalis (brown trout) fry in the waters of the Kaupokonui River to the northward of Kaponga. The fish were in splendid condition, Air. Betts never having liberated stronger fry in an experience of 20 years. The distribution was spread over a considerable stretch of water, extending from the cheese factory to the upper power dam, above which I Kith branches of the Kaupokonui were served to Air. F. AVilson’s northern boundary.
Perfect weather and water conditions prevailed, and Air. Betts considers that a week’s continuance will fit the fry to withstand an ordinary fresh, all being strong and healthy when put out. In company with Alessrs. H. Henderson and R. A. Law, Air. Betts liberated two consignments of yearling fontinalis in the same waters two months ago. There have been no heavy freshes since, and though Air. Betts saw no indications of these fish yesterday, is of opinion that they are doing well. PERSONAL. Air. J. W. H.
