Calling on Signor Mussolini, Levine expresed a wish, when en route to Bucharest, to fly over Mussolini s vti and drop a present for the new baby. Mussolini was most delighted and telephoned his daughter to ask her to spread sheets on the housetop to make it distinguishable. The attempt was disastrous, lor the Miss Columbia developed engine trouble, crashed in a vineyard on the outskirts ot Rome and wrecked tin landing gear, propel lor and engine. The occupants, including Prince Louis Bourdon, had” wonderful escapes an<l were unhurt. It is feared that this is the end of tlie Miss Columbia’s romantic career, but Levine has arranged to go- to Paris or repairs. Levine 1 said: “Rut for Captain Hi nehcli tie’s wonderful piloting we would all be dead. He could have landed safely if there had been any clear ground, but there wasn’t.’’ Prince Rourdon emerged from the cockpit and said : “There already?”
