PERSONAL ITEMS.

Mr. S. K. Harr on, of Wellington, is at present a guest at the Central Hotel.

Proceeding on a visit to Auckland, Mr L. O. Hooker, of Hawera, left by car yesterday afternoon to connect with the main trunk express at Marten. He anticipates remaining in the northern eit;v for about a week.

Messrs J. N. McKenzie, T. J. Griifen and W. A. Ballantyne, inspectors of schools under the Taranaki Education Board , are visiting Hawera district. They are staying at the Egmont Hotel. What is regarded as an unique distinction because of their New Zealand birth is the celebration on Monday of the golden anniversary of the wedding of Mr and Mrs G. Smith, of Colombo Road, Masterton. The parties are New Zealand born, tkeir native town being Wellington, and were married in Masterton at St. Matthew’s Church in 1877.

Mr F. W. Partridge, of the Wellington staff of the Vacuum Oil Company, is at present visiting Hawera. JMt. McMasters, who is taking charge of the Taranaki district for the firm, has arrived in Hawera to commence his duties. Both are staying at the Central Hotel. Mr. Victor Elliott has been elected president of the North Taranaki Cricket Association for this year. Mr. Elliott is a Hawera boy, and a brother of Mr. 11. -S. Elliott. He has for many years taken a keen and active interest in the game and the honour is well deserved.

Hawera music students have often scored well in outside competitions, and at Wanganui competitions Hawera girls and boys more than held their own. In addition to those already recorded, Miss Mara Mackie scored third in a strong class for open pianoforte solo, in addition to winning first place under 20. The judge was very complimentary in his remarks on the winners in the open class, who he said, all played exceedingly well.
