CRICKET.

SENIOR TEAMS AT WELLINGTON. AN ALTERATION PROPOSED.. (BY TELEGRAPH—PRESS ASSOCIATION.) WELLINGTON, Sept, 19. A further move to reduce the number of teams in the senior grade) was made at the annual meeting the Wellington Cricket Association to-night. Two notices of motion were put forward, but were deferred in, favour of an amendment to refer the whole question to the iucoiiiiii.o- management committee. Mr R. S. Johnston moved: “That for the season 1927-28 two new grades be formed to take the place of tile senior competitions, to be called first and second grades, the players to be confined to the six district clubs, viz., Centra) 1 , East, South. Peifcone and Hutt.” Mr P. B. Broad moved :“That in the opinion of this meeting there should be not alteration in the senior grade competition until there has been a, threeyears’ trial of the- present number of teams and that at the termination of the third season the four teams, which for the three seasons have obtained the lowest aggregate number of points shall lie placed in a lower grade, the three rears’ trial to commence' from October I. 1926.” Mr W. S. Brice (Petoiie) contended that cricket in Wellington wa** all right as -it was. Mr A. F. Wiren considered that it Would be a good idea to follow the Christchurch lead and iset up a suitcommittee to go into the question. He was not enamoured of the latter proposal and it was too near the start of the season to make drastic changes. He moved that a, committee, he iset up to ,report upon the question to the a.ssociaihn at tLie end of the season. Mr P. R. Fulton seconded Mr Wiren’s ■amendment, remarking that under the district scheme there were anomalies. Some districts were strong in playing strength and some were weak. On Mr Johnston’s motion being put it was defeated on the voices. Mr Wiren’.s amendment to refer the whole question to the management committee for a report wa,s then put and carried.
