SUMMER TIME.
“FIGHT TO THE LAST DITCH.” ATTITUDE O'F OPPONENTS. OF BILL. BY TELEGRAPH - SPECIAL To THE STARWELLINGTON, Sept. 14. No surrender is the attitude of a minority of members in the House opposed to the Summertime Bill on which there will be further work in committee to-day. “Are those in opposition prepared to fright on till breakfast time knowing that they are hopelessly outnumbered?” AH. Samuel was asked by your representative to-day. “I can’t say,” he replied, “it depends on what happens. If, after we have made a reasonably hard fight, we are. appealed to from all sides of the House from the Prime Minister down, we might consider throwing in the sponge, but not otherwise.” Mr. Samuel said that .those in opposition to. the Bill were not satisfied that the Biailways Department could make adequate ararngements to meet the difficulties which would be imposed on the dairy farmers by summertinie. In about four places it was impossible to adjust timetables and the consequence would be that those dairymen affected would have to work an extra hour every morning. The minority opposing the Bull regard this as class legislation and are resolved to fight it on principle. Mr. Sidey, being assured of a majority, will not, it as understood accept any amendments other than those mentioned when the Bill was in committee previously.
