BREACH OF MINING REGULATIONS. GREYMOUTH, Sept. 12, James Neilson and William . Parsonage, managers of the Blackball mine, were fined £5 each at the Magistrate’s Court this morning, on the information of O. J. Davies, mining inspector, on charges of failing to provide adequate ventilation in working places.

MOTORIST FINED FOR- INTOXICATION. DUNEDIN, Sept. 12. At the Police Court Donald William Stronaeh, a sheepfarmer, was fined £lO for being in a state of intoxication while in charge of a motorcar. His license was also cancelled and he Was prohibited from driving for two years. It was shown that the defendant had knocked a man down.

MAXIMUM FINE IMPOSED. PALMERSTON N., Sept. 12. When Harold Edward Hook, a hairdresser of Shannon, was charged at the Police Court this morning with having used his shop as a common gaming house, Senior-Detective Quirke informed Mr. Stout, S.M., that the premises were visited by the police on 'Saturday. No bets were taken while they were there, doubtless owing to their presence being known, but records of extensive betting were found, showing that between January 3 and 27, over £SOO was taken. The maximum fine was asked for.
