NEW ZEALANDERS FAIL. IN MATCH WITH WALES. FIRST INNINGS TOTALS 130. (V CABI.B-PHES3 association— copyright Received 11.20 a.m. to-day. LONDON, Sept. 5. The match with Wales was resumed in glorious weather. The New Zealanders failed very badly against the Welsh bowling, whiph included Barnes, the once famous English bowler, who now plays for Wales. The batting before lunch was extremely slow, the first six overs only yielding five runs. Mills’s first boundary .stroke was a, mishit which went over the slip’s head. He was in nearly two hours for his 18. Lowry defended stubbornly for 70 minutes, and was eventually caught at point off his glove. James brightened up the innings a little, but none of the New Zealanders could stay long, and the innings closed for a paltry total of 130, the result of 3j hours’ play. When Wales went in again Henderson met with some success, and, 1 quickie disposed of' two men. The batsmen, like the New Zealanders, made very slow progress, Lowry unsettling them by frequent changes. Bates, after hitting Henderson for two fours, lost his wicket in attempting the third. Riches and Walters slowly added 26 for the third wicket, helped by a disproportionate number of extras, of which 19 had- already been scored. Stumps were drawn 10 minutes early owing to the light.
