HAWERA DAIRY COMPANY’S MEETING.
(To tli© Editor.) Sir, —In your issue of Friday evening, Messrs, Wilson, Buckeridge, and Morpeth state I have got very much out of touch with ‘real facts,” which they say are as follows: “In delivering the voting papers the scrutineers had given one to Mr. Gawith in the ordinary way, marked 51 votes. Later on, when all the ballot papers had been delivered, and when the scrutineers were coming up to the table to hand in the unused ballot papers Mr. Gawith asked for a paper, stating he had not received one, but was told he had already received one and must produce the first one before he could be given a second one. Mr. Gawith then appealed to the chairman, stating he had not had a paper, and was given: a second paper.” Perhaps the scrutineers can tell us: (1) Why Mr. Corrigan accepted Mr. Gawith’s word in preference to three scrutineers? (2) Why they raised no objection or appealed to the meeting when Mr. Corrigan issued to Mr. Gawith a second paper after they had flatly refused to supply _ him themselves? (3) Why Mr. Corrigan, after ignoring three scrutineers, accepted Mr. Bolond’s protest without question and immediately opened) an enquiry ? (4) Why one of their number sought out Mr. Gawith, after the publication of their letter, and excused himself, saying. “I signed it on the spur of the moment! 3 ” Or why they are gifted with a better memory of the events of the meeting than myself.—l am, etc., WITNESS.
