N.Z. CHAMPIONSHIPS

OPEN AT HAAIILTON TO-AIORROW

Hamilton will be the Alecca of the golfing world of New Zealand during the next ten days, for the amateur, open and professional championships will be there decided for 1927. Golf lias gone ahead by leaps and bounds during the past few years, and, generally speaking, the standard has much improved. The win of the New Zealand four over the Australian cracks went a long way towards putting the Dominion on the golf map, and naturally gave a fillip to the game, which will be all for the good of the sport. The entries are exceedingly good, though lit has been disappointing that more Australians did not enter. It does not appear clear about the KirkWindeyer Cup whether it will be playthis year. A strong contingent was expected from the other side of the Tasman.

Play will commence to-morrow, but it will be foursomes, and the singles matches —four medal rounds, to decide the open and the qualifying .rounds for amateur and professional—will begin on Friday. DRAW FOR CHAMPIONSHIP.

Otago has made application twioe to have the championships for 1928, but has ben refused, and now the association lias written to the council at Hamilton, when the decision will be made, asking for further consideration. ■lt is fourteen years since the Dunedin (Dalmacewan) has had the championship meeting, and the attitude of the council has been criticised somwha.t severely by Otago.

HAWERA LADIES’ CLUB

The following team from Hawera will visit New Plymouth to-morrow: Miss E. Burgess, Mrs Thomson, Miss Richardson, Mrs Little, Mrs Dickie, Miss Robertson, Mrs Gibson, Mrs Meuli, Miss G. Death, Mrs Hawthorne, Miss D. Hawken, Miss H. Burgess, Miss Caplen, Miss McCormack.

In conjunction with the match, the first six players above-mentioned' will play a similar number from the New Plymouth Club for the Taplin Cup, which is at present held by the New Plymouth Club. Cars will leave the Post Office at 9.30 a.m.

Last Friday’s competition—the third round of the three-day bogey for Mrs Little’s trophy—resutled in a win for Miss Joan Page, who was three down on bogoy on -the three rounds. Next Friday is monthly medal day.

Junior championship competitors are reminded that the second round is to be completed by Monday next, the sth September.
