ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
GIRL SERIOUSLY INJURED. LEVIN, Aug. 29. A serious accident happened on Saturday afternoon to (Miss Ethel Gray, aged 19, while . she was going on a tramping expedition with the Levin Waiopehu Club. The handrail of a bridge broke, precipitating her to the bed of a stream thirty feet below. She received a broken wrist, fractured pelvis, severe bruises, and shock. She was removed to the Palmerston hospital.
A LUCKY ESCAPE. WAJ BOA, Aug.‘29. What might have been a serious accident occurred in the early hours of Sunday, when a lorry ' returning from a picture performance at Tuai smashed into a small bridge about two miles from Frasertown. Though the falling lorry turned two complete somersaults and slid into a hank upside down, the three occupants received slight cuts, but otherwise escaped uninjured. The van and contents were damaged.
WEEK-END ACCIDENTS. (by tf.lf.gr.aph—press association.) OAMARU, August 28. What looks like an attempted suicide was reported from Herbert this morning when Nicholas Quigley cut his Avrist Avith a- razor. He was removed to Oamaru hospital, but his condition is not serious.
ROTAJRUA, August 27. A motor-lorry driven by Stanley Parsons of Atiamuri, was hit by an out-going train at the Ranolf crossing. The lorry Avas throAvn clear of the line and turned over. The driver escaped uninjured. The crossing is blind from the south, being blanketed by engine sheds.
WANGANUI, August 28,
A car and service car collided at Turakina on the bend on Saturday. Mary Jackson of Wanganui, six years of age, was badly cut about the face. She is suffering from shock and her condition is serious.
During the cycle races on Saturday, several riders in a bunch collided on the Riverbank Road with a Mrs Walpole, Avho was knocked unconscious. She sustained numerous cuts and her condition is serious. Barnes, one of the riders, Avas also badly cut about the face, and was taken to hospital. DUNEDIN. August 28.
A motor car accident occurred in the city in the early hours of this morning a local land agent named Paterson being picked up unconscious on the footpath at the corner of Crawford Street and Anderson’s Bay Road. His motor car, which ivas in a av recked condition, was near by. No details are yet available. Paterson was still unconscious yesterday afternoon. HAMILTON, August 28. An accident befel Audrey Mr Dell, a boy of 11. AvhOse parents reside at Pukekohe When playing on a Newstead farm on Saturday he fell from a disc plough, which passed over him, severing the left leg below the knee. The sufferer was admitted to the Waikato hospital where his condition was reported as satisfactory.
