PILLAGE OF CARGO
AT AUSTRALIAN PORTS. A RAMPANT EVIL. A NEWSPAPER’S SURMISE. BY CABLE—CHESS ASSOCIATION— -OP STt -GHT. Received 10.40 a.m. to-day. LUNiD'oN, Aug. 26. Commenting on Uxe pilferage report, “Li.oyds List" says: “xhe natural conclusion from the figures given is that most of the piierage still, as when the iiloyal Commission reported in 1921, is carried out when the cargo is being landed or shipped in Australian ports. It is deplorable that six years after the issue of so vigorous a. report, the evil is still rampant.” The paper hopes that the facts now published will stimulate all interests concerned- in transport at Australian ports to unite in removing this blot on the reputation on some of the world’s finest harbours.
