II AAV ERA TRACK. NOTES.
FINAL GALLOPS FOR SATURDAY
(By “Limited.”)
Despite the execrable weather yesterday trainers had to send their charges along in view of the races at to-morrow and several interesting try-outs were witnessed. 'Hie gallops were all performed on the sand track, which provided good but not fast going. . \V. Pine commenced operations by sending the two-year-old Sea-bridge and the Scurry candidate Fermanagh three furlongs down the back stretch. Sc abridge dashed away, getting a break that the filly could not quite make up, the time being 39sec. Denier, the local favourite for the open six furlong, and Sovena were companions over five furlongs. Denier, conceding his mate considerable weight, held his own to. the finish in L 7 2-5, but Sovena goes better in a race than on the track and may run prominently in ’ the Urenui hack race. J. Brown’s promising pair, Silvermine and Ora zone, ran an attractive half mile in 53sec. O. Jackson’s pair, Partaga and Vivo both engaged in the six furlong event, were responsible for a good tryout over five furlongs, finishing together in 1.7 2-ssec, but Partaga, I think, doing best. Whether he will go well in bad ground is problematical, but lie will have the advantage of a good pilot in Bert Morris. M. Conway sent Gasnapper and War Flame a four furlong sprint, which they compassed in 54 4*5. Gasnapper runs in the six and War Flame in the five furlong events. Troilus went by himself and worked well, running his five furlongs in 1./ 1-5. Bisox and Bright Glow worked -about a mile at a good strong pace doing 15see to.- the furlong. Both these mares ire well and should have something to say in the decision of the Waihi Rack Handicap run over, seven furlongs. Bisox is the local fancy. Lady Acne, looking none the worse for her "trip north, was given strong pace work. She will contest the Hunters’ Hurdles and should run well in phis etvent. W. Rennie is to have the mount.
ii.cran.oa.na and Barryana galloped over five furlongs, the last four taking 54 3-5.
Airtight again beat Bevis over four furlongs in 54 2-5 sec. Airtight is in the final event, run over six furlongs.
R. MciTavish is engaged to ride Miss Mercia in the Opunake •Scurry. This filly will, no doubt .start favourite. Additional riding engagements are: F. Cbrlett, Franfeldt; M. Conway, Broad Acre, Cra.igowen ; Cl France, War Flame; A. E. Ellis, Maidos.
The following horses left by train for New Plymouth this morning: Lady Acre, Gasnapper. War Flame, Silver Rule, Tlisox, Troilus, Sovena, Seahridge, Fermanagh, Denier and Rlayo, O. Cox, J. Fryer and C. Jackson leave by early train, with their teams, tomorrow morning.
