FOUND DEAD ON THE, ROAD

(by telegraph—press association.) CHRISTCHURCH, Aug. 25. At an inquest concerning tne death of a middle-aged man, Daniel Fitzgerald, found dead, oh the Iticcarton Hoad beside liis bent and crumpled bicycle, Dr. Pearson, pathologist at the Christchurch Hospital, gave evidence that the cause or death wag internal haemorrhage associated with a fracture of the spine. Witness was of the opinion that Fitzgerald was struck in the back and run over by a vehicle. The fracture was severe. There were no inthat the body had been dragged. J allies Ritchie, of Sockburn, said he left the city at 12.30 a.m. on July 10. When passing the Bush Inn Hotel he noticed an unlighted motor truck proceeding into town, but was unable to say of what make. The truck was about two ton. with solid rubber tyres. The police gave evidence to the effect that search had proved fruitless.

The coroner returned a verdict that Fitzgerald died on the Riocarton Road, near the Bush Inn Hotel, on July 10, death being caused by internal haemorrhage associated with a fractured spine, probably caused by Fitzgerald having & been, run- over by a vehicle of some description.
