CASES AT INVERCARGILL. (.BY TELEGRAM—PRESS ASSOCIATION.) INVERCARGILL, Aug. 25. ]n the Supreme Court, before Mr. Justice Sim, Walter Yelds, aged 40 yeans, a married man, convicted oi attempted carnal knowledge of young girls, was ordered to detention for reformative purposes for three years. George Scandrett. a senior (sergeant of police, appeared on a charge of perjuiy. The previous day the jury had disagreed and a fresh trial was ordered. The jury again failed to agree, and a new trial was ordered at the next sessions of the Supreme Court. John Francis Magniei and William Alexandra Phillips, convicted of the theft of a case of brandy at Bluff, were sentenced To 12 months’ hard labour. Anthony McHale, a seaman, was convicted of causing actual bodily harm to a fireman named Power during a drunken brawl. He was fined £2O. Robert Baiicl for stealing a cheque for £ll and forgery by signing an endorsement was released on probation for three years.
