ROUSING THE MINERS. - MOVEMENT AGAINST EIGHT HOUR ACT. BY CARUB—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT LONDON, Aug .13. Mr A. J. Cook. Secretary to the Miners’ Union, in a rallying speech at Durham, appealed to the workers to co-operate in a movement to smash the Eight Hour Day Act. He 'teetered human endurance had reached its limit and this was an occasion not for patience but for action. It was a choice between starvation wages or closing the jiits and compelling the nation to pay the miners a living wage. He was not willing to await the advent of a Labour Government. They might starve before that happened. He was organising a revolt from Lands End to John o’ Groats in order to rouse the workers to united action.
