VALEDICTORY TO RETIRING MANAGER.

At a meeting of the directors of the Melrose Dairy Factory Co., Ltd. (Meremere) held yesterday, Mr. A. T. Tidswell, of the Mells Dairy Co., Mokoia, was appointed manager in place of Mr. W. Sorenson, who resigned to take the position of manager of the Hamua dairy factory, Pahiatua. There were between 40 and 50 applications for the position. Last'evening a large gathering of settlers of the Meremere and Ohangai districts assembled at Meremere to take formal farewell of Mr. and Mrs. Sorenson prior to their departure from the district. The chairman of the Melrose Dairy Co. (Mr. G. W. Williams) presided, and in well-chosen words expressed the feelings of the settlers of the districts represented in regard to the guests of the evening. Mr. and Mrs. Sorenson, he said, had been to the forefront in all activities for the welfare of their fellow settlers, and were universally respected and esteemed. General regret was felt at tlieir departure, and the good wishes of the community would follow them for success in tlieir new sphere of activity. Mr. Williams then, on behalf of- the settlers, asked Mr. and Mrs. Sorenson to accept a dinner service and a suit case as tokens of the esteem in which they were held. Mr. Sorenson, on behalf of his wife and himself, expressed thanks for the good wishes- extended to them and the presentations made, adding that- they also to express their gratitude for from so many good friends. They had had also to exnress their gratitude for the many kindnesses they had experienced during their stay in Meremere. A social and dance followed the formal proceedings, and a very happy time was spent.
