LOCAL TOPICS. (By “Limited.”) The attendance of the majority of local trainers at the Wellington meeting and the heavy rains have slowed up proceedings a, bit on the Jlawera tracks this week. However the sand track is quite all right for pace work and the inside space for pottering about. . This inside- would be very popular with trainers if it were put into a Lit better condition. Mr A. slov.se, the caretaker, lias completed another . improvement by laying a. drain from near the track gates to the trees bv the railway line. This is proving very effective in carrying off water from all the tracks. The youngsters are all being regu. larly exercised, and as soon as the weather takes up some interesting sprinting should be indulged in. Great interest is expected in the sale of imported Australian and English thoroughbreds to take place at Trentham to-morrow. Mr R. Brough left by yesterday’s train to attend the sale; meanwhile his horses are being exercised by R J. Flower. 51. Conway is getting San Fera in again within a fortnight, and the result of his operation should soon be made manifest. Enure is returning home to-day, his trainer being, disinclined to start -> in the heavy going prevalent at Wellington. The programmes for the North Taranaki Hunt and Marton meetings are advertised, and local owners will scon be busy preparing their charges intended for them. The date for North Taranaki has been altered to August 27 in lieu of September 3; and Marton August 31 and September 1 or September I and > in lieu of September 7 and 8. A GRACIOUS ACT. The majority of racing people will :e pleased to learn action of L lie Racing Conference in commuting Hector Gray’s life disqualification to one of suspension. The motion placed before the delegates was as follows: — ■•That the disqualification for life imposed on Hector Gray be altered to suspension subject to the conditions that should he fail at any time to observe any restrictions which may be imposed upon him by the licensing committee, bis original disqualification shall immediately be reinstated by the president in the list of disqualifications.”
