WAIMATE WEST AFFAIRS
MONTHLY MEETING OF COUNCIL. The chairman (Or. E. Long) presided over the ordinary meeting ol the Waiimate West Cbunty Council held to-day. There were also present: Ur.s. Sir \Y. he Fleming, J. Mourie, J. Lashe, J. S- McKay and J. F. Stevenson. The Blank of New Zealand wrote approving of an advance limit of £6OOO. The Native Land Court at Wanganui. advised that applications for rating liens would be set down fur hearing at the' sitting of the Court at New Plymouth on August 3 next, and that two of the blocks were :ait O'takeho and at Ngatihaua. The Valuer-General wrote stating that the amount due tor .subsidy under the Appropriation Act would be forwarded oil receipt of deciliaration duly signed by the chairman. It was necessary to send a copy of the resolution levying general rate and a copy of the balance-sheet for 1926-27. The inspector of heavy traffic in New Plymouth forwarded schedules for Jan nary-March quarter, 1927. showing apportionment as approved by Local Bodies’ Association. The amount shown as ito- he paid by Taranaki County Council to Waimate West was £35 3s. In accordance with notice of motion, Cr. Stevenson moved, and Sir W. Lc Fleming seconded, it was resolved that rates' be made and levied as follows : \V annate Riding. L7-24d; Kaupokonui, I.'JThe overseer reported) that 1.50 yards ol' 'boulders had .been crushed oil the Rowan Rond. About 1.20 yards of this crushed metal was used for repairing the road and the balance was tipped along the isi.de of the road and would he used when required for patching. In addition 240 yards of stone were crushed on the Rain,a Road, about 190 yards refacing 26 chains of road which have now been rolled and tai'-gmuted. The balance of the metal was used for patching As it was too wet for Sheorin to deliver more stone on the Riama Road it was arranged to (lump the balance, about 80 yards, on the Sheet Rond. This had now been crushed, portion being used for 'patching and widening places allong the Sheet, Anroa. Glenn and Rarnia Roads.
The question of installing a Bowser pump was h,nought up by the engineer, and after discussion, it was resolved to purchase one that' had been offered to him, second-hand' but in perfect order, and at less than half the cost of isv new one. The bowser would hold 320 gallons, and anv brand of petrol could be used-
