FIRE BRIGADE.
ANNUAL. MEETING. Superintendent A. Morrison, presided over tire annual meeting of the Hawera Volunteer Eire Brigade last, night, when there was a good muster. 'the election of olhcers resulted as follows : —Chairman., Superintendent Morrison; vice-chairman, JDepucySuperintendent Grace; secretary, Eireman L. Warner; treasurer, Foreman J. Zinsli; committee, Eoreman H. Hurley, Motor-Driver It. ELone, Fireman A. Mcßetih and T. Low die; lion, surgeons, Dins- Thomson, Luist and Sinclair; librarian, Motor-Driver C. Amos; lion, auditors, Messrs. Wlalkley and Uameron. the superintendent gave a short account of the activities of the brigade during .the year, explaining that there had been 90 per cent, attendances at musters and 70 per cent, at the nine lire calls .received. This was an increase of 7 per cent, on last year's attendances. The secretary reported that during tire year Eoreman Champion received a two-year gold service bar, on the completion of 00 years’ service; Eireman 11. Pettett a two-year silver service bar on the completion of seven years as fireman and two years as messenger; Eoreman B. 13. Henry a two-year silver service bar on the completion ot nine years; .and Firemen L. Bryant and E- Hart each a three-year service certificate. The report concluded with a review of the social workings of the brigade for the past year. EIREMAN HONOURED. At the conclusion of the meeting a vsooiai evening was tendered f oremau H. A. Hurley, who has completed 25 years’ service. Superintendent Morrison presided over a good attendance or firemen and well-wishers. Apologies and congratulatory messages were received iron: Inspector Hugo and Messrs. 11. G. Dickie, M.P., L. A. Bone, chairman of the Hawera Eire Board, D. A. Sellar, ex-Eiiiremen J. Blake and E. H. Ure, and the Waitara, Inglewood, New Plymouth, Ivaponga and Patea Eire Brigades Ajssooiated with tlie president and Mrs. Morrison were Superintendent H. A. Nuttali and Mrs. Nutt all and. Secretary A- M. Burrows (Ellt-ham), H. L. Spratt (Hawera Eire Boan'dj and A Blair.
During the evening the following toast list was honoured: —The U.P.8.A., proposed by Superintendent Nutt-all and responded to by Fireman J. Champion; The Hawera Eire Board (Superintendent Morrison—Mu'. H. 1.. Spratit); the guest (Superintendent Morrison-—Eoreman Hurley). Other toasts were the Harwera Eire Brigade, ex-firemen, and the artists. The presentation of the 25-years’ gold bar was made by Superintendent Morrison, who paid a tribute to the long and faithful service of Foreman Hurley and eulogised the assistance given, by Mrs. Hurley. On behalf of the brigade he presented Foreman Hurley with a handsome dinner setFlo reman Hurley suitably replied. A bright- programme of vocal and instrumental items was rendered_ by members of the brigade and visiting artist-s.
