MANAIA.

(From Oar Own Correspondent). FANCY DRESS BALL. The committee controlling the novelty fancy dress masquerade ball lias every reason to be pleased with the result of its labour in connection with, this 'annual fixture, which was held .last evening in the Town Hall. It was most successful, over 260 couples being present from all parts of South Taranaki. The liall was elaborately decorated with amber and black streamers extending from a massive dome in the ceiling to al parts and entwined with coloured lights, which gave a pleasing effect. The decorations in the hall and on the stage were the work of Messrs J. Barnes, A. J. Hansen and committee, and the lighting effects by Mr James Wilson. The supper room was also tastefully decorated, this work being done by Misses M. Long, hi. Rvan, E. Judd and I. Lilly. Bupper was provided by a committee consisting of Mesdames A. J. Hansen, A. Gamlin, S. Jones, J. Dakers, T. Dee, W. Lewin, and Mosses, M. Long, !M. Ryan and Al. Franklin. Music was supplied bv Boulton’s orchestra, and. Messrs A. J. Hansen, S. B’air and E. Long carried out the duties of Al’s.C. The spot waltz competition was won by Miss' Arm i tag© and Mr Hastie, the Atonic Carlo by bliss Ustace and Mr Barker. A Charleston exhibition was given by Alias Jaeoiub and Air Robb, and was much appreciated. Prizes for fancy dresses were won as follow : Ladies; Mis® Gibblings (Crusader) 1. Airs Hollard (Ricketts’ Blue Boy) 2. Alen: H. Hansen (Charlie’s Aunt) 1, R. Hollard (skeleton) 2. Alost original dress: Airs Hollard. The door takings were over £SO. Great credit is certainly due to the various committees for their fine efforts and special credit is due to the energetic secretary, Airs S. Lewin.
