CREAM GRADING.
SUSPENSION IN WINTER. NOT FAVOURED BY DEPARTMENT “I am of the opinion that it would not lie politic for the Government to bring in a new regulation superseding the present ones atrecting cream grading.” stated Mr. W. M. Singleton, director of the Dairy Division, in a lettei read at the last meeting of the Manawatu and V est Coast Dairy Companies’ Association, in reply to a communication by the association urging that cream grading be not compulsory during June and July. Mr Singleton stated in bis reply that in view of the fact that the regulation had been submitted to the bodies representing all sections of the dairy industry, and had been so largely endorsed prior to their being gazetted, no action could be taken, it was added that some dairy companies lmd tried out the suggestion of abandoning the grading during certain winter months, and had since decided that they had made a mistake in so doing. “The Dairy Division wants to do only what is considered best in th© interests of the industry as a whole, and lias nothing to fear from open discussion of the point raised,” continued the letter. “Taking all the circumstances into consideration, the Department is wondering whether it might not be advisable for some factory linked up with the association to forward a remit to the National Dairy Association For inclusion in the agenda paper for the forthcoming conference at> Rotorua. If the question were discussed there the Department could obtain a better idea of the general feeling of the dairy companies represented.”
