OPUNAKE.
(From Our Own Correspondent., FOOTBALL. . Great interest is being evinced in the footpad competitions, especially the senior, as the senior team is regarded as having an excellent chance of winning at least the southern end competition. The team has been very unlucky in some or its matches, ana we all" hope that a repetition will not result, Several hard matches have vet to be played, including that against Hawera to-day, in which the Keenest interest is being taken.
PERSONAL. Mr. H. F. Toogood, consulting engineer to the Power Board, who has oeen lieie tor two days, left yesterday. The new Anglican vicar, Rev. A. 4Davies, is expected to arrive next week and will be inducted on Thursday evening. GENERAL. • The Oddieliows’ dance, held in the Town Hall on Tuesday evening, was well attended, there oeing numerous brethren from outside centres. A most peculiar phenomenon was observed here on Thursday morning. At about 7 a.m. a cold southerly wind was blowing, but shortly after the wind changed from a' cold to a warm one, with the result that all windows were coated with moisture on the outside, appearing exactly as if a cloud of steam had been blown against them, and e.en mirrors inside, were similarly coated. The warm wind blew for about half-an-hour and then again changed to cold. Miss Beswiek, until lately matron of the hospital, left Opunake this week.
