A statement- by the Department of Health shows the steady increase of deaths from cancer during the last 12 years. In 1915 there were 900 deaths from cancer out- of a total of 9665 deaths, and in 1926 the numbers had increased to 1341 and 11,819 respectively. This relative increase, it is pointed out, is in part due to the advance made in dealing with and preventing infantile mortality and tuberculosis by various safeguards, which leave people reaching middle life subject mainly to heart troubles, arterial degeneration, and cancer.
