LEVEL CROSSING SMASH. OAMARU, June 21. A level crossing smash occurred near Enfield this afternoon, when a goods train coming into Oarna-ru crashed into a. car driven by Harold Russell, of Rototuna, Waikato, who was, accompanied bv a lady passenger. When upicaching the crossing Russell slowed down and thinking the line was clear, went ahead. Thee front wheels of the car were just on the line when the engine struck the front of the car, almost omnlete'v wrecking it. Neither Russell nor bis companion wa.s thrown out, and had a remarkable escape from serious injury.
