BERLIN, June 1. To-day proved to be another black day on the Stock Exchange, many quotations dropping even below the level reached on May 13. SYDNEY, June 2. A further compulsory conference of the parties to the Newcastle trimmers’ strike Has been called for Saturday. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, June 2. The rear-admiral commanding the French naval squadron visited Portsmouth yesterday, and laid wreaths on the city war memorials. Last night the officers and 400 of the men attended a dinner in the Guildhall. The visitors are very popular with the British naval gradings and with the people of Portsmouth, who yesterday visited the French ships in large numbers. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, June 2,
The Lord Mayor of London and the Lady Mayoress, with the sheriffs, will visit Belgium for a. few days and will stay until Monday. An extensive programme of hospitality has been arranged. On Saturday morning, presented bv the British. Ambassador, Sir George Graham, they will be interviewed by the King of Belgium at the Royal Palace in Brussels.
