HAWERA TRACK NOTES AND NEWS.
(By “Limited.”) The Egmont track showed evidence of the heavy rains yesterday and last night, but although there was plenty of water about the sand track was quite passable for pacework. The course proper was open for the horses engaged at Otaki, and Bonogne and Bevis set out to gallop four furlongs together. Bevis refused to jump off and galloped half a mile the reverse way round. They were eventually got away together, Bevis loading to the entrance of the straight, where Bonogne headed him and finished a shade in front in 55 2-s—a fair gallop considering the state of the track. _ Acred was worked on the sand. He will be a runner at Otaki. Taitaiata was given half pace wor*r. Captain Gazeley and Lany Anstruther, the other Otaki candidates, were also given strong pace work. M. Conway is getting Warflamo in again next week. \ C. Jackson has sent Onward home for the winter as she is considered not too good on the soft tracks. Denier and Troilus are being given a short lct-up. Trainer Pine docs not intend to let them remain idle long, and two or three weeks will see thorn in active commission again. Troilus Was priced for an. Australian buyer, but nothing definite has come of the inquiry as yet. The death of Mr Buchanan’s Lug-lish-bred marc Pcrama is reported. Pcrama was the dam of Barryanda on O. Cox’s stable. Avola has run her last race and is to be put to the stud. Avola is rising seven years and has been a useful performer. A good game mare, she has laboured under the disadvantage of being more or less unsound the last two years, but whenever she has faced the barrier she has Taced -with such determination and courage as to delight the public and her connections. Avola was the first of Bisogne’s stock to give that sire—now defunct —a good advertisement. Roya, Enare, Danae and Passm’ Through went to New' Plymouth yesterday with the intention of journeying to Auckland by last night’s boat, but, as it looked like a rough night only Rayo, in charge of R. Morrison, took passage. The other horses went through by mail train this morning. °
