A THRILLING STORY
BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT.
Received 2.20 p.m. tp-day. ROME, May 27. De Pinedo’s adventures in midAtlantic make a thrilling story. He left Trepassey at dawn on May 23, and soon realised that navigation to the Azores would lie difficult, owing to strong contrary winds. Later he calculated that at the then rate of progress it would be impossible, with the available petrol, to reach the Azores, so lie resolved in the a Iternoon to- descend and moor the seaplane- in mid-ocean and await favourable winds. The weather, became worse, owing to a cyclonic disturbance, and the seaplane was forced to outride the roughest seas for three days, while a schooner was standing by. Nevertheless, despite the buffeting of the waves and incessant squalls, it suffered onlyslight damage. De Pined-o intends to resume when the wing of his machine is repaired. — A.P.A. and “Sun.”
